COBRA issues with our 65+ crowd have been everywhere these last few weeks for some reason.
Advisors – if you hear the word COBRA and your client is approaching or is over age 65, please get them to a qualified Medicare person ASAP. That client needs to understand that COBRA is not primary to Medicare. If they by-pass Medicare’s Part B, stay on COBRA because they “feel” that it’s “normal” insurance and have a medical incident – their COBRA carrier can deny coverage. (because they are secondary and no primary exists).
It’s happening more and more these days. Please keep your ears open when talking with clients. Question them about healthcare. You may save them one enormous headache. Oh, and plenty of dollars.
